Emission Reduction Program for the Togo Plateau

Along Ghanas mid-eastern border with Togo, there is an area of Volta region, commonly referred to as the Togo plateau, which contains some of the highest carbon stocks in the country due to a mosaic of protected forests, off-reserve forest patches, high biomass cocoa farms and other complex agroforestry systems. It is also an area that is rich in biodiversity. Yet this landscape has received the least attention of all possible REDD+ interventions. Resources should be allocated to explore the potential for REDD+ interventions in this stretch of the Volta region, either as a sub-national program or as a project that is nested within the national approach.
